The research was conducted in Konya, Turkey, with 164 students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and students' English achievement scores were used to assess the relationship between metacognition and academic success. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a moderate positive relationship between metacognition and English achievement (r = 0.439, p < 0.01). Additionally, regression analysis indicated that metacognition significantly predicted academic achievement (β = 0.439, p < 0.001), explaining 18.8% of the variance (R² = 0.188). However, no significant differences were found in metacognitive awareness scores based on gender or grade level. The findings suggest that metacognitive skills play a crucial role in language learning success and should be integrated into instructional strategies to enhance student performance.
2025-02-19T00:00:00+03:00Copyright (c) 2025 SOSYAL GELİŞİM DERGİSİhttps://sosyalgelisimdergisi.com/index.php/pub/article/view/48Evaluation of the Effect of Father's Personality Traits on Fear of Childbirth2025-02-10T01:11:56+03:00Mahmut DEMİRKOLdemirkol4@hotmail.de
This study aims to examine how fathers' personality traits affect their levels of fear related to childbirth and to develop strategies to alleviate the anxiety and fear experienced by fathers during the childbirth process based on the findings. The use of digital technologies enhances the interactivity and accessibility of science education while enabling school administrators to make more efficient decisions through digitalization. Innovative technologies such as AI-powered learning systems, virtual laboratories, augmented reality (AR) applications, and management information systems (MIS) contribute to student success and optimize educational processes. However, several challenges, including teachers’ digital pedagogical competencies, infrastructure deficiencies, and data security concerns, hinder the effective implementation of technology. In this context, education policies should be developed to support digital transformation, teacher adaptation to technology should be facilitated, and investments in technological infrastructure should be increased.
2025-02-19T00:00:00+03:00Copyright (c) 2025 SOSYAL GELİŞİM DERGİSİhttps://sosyalgelisimdergisi.com/index.php/pub/article/view/54The Importance of Applied Education Processes in the Field of Child Development and Approaches in the Literature2025-05-22T02:34:09+03:00Gülten YÖRÜKgyoruk@dogus.edu.tr
This study addresses the conceptual framework of school safety, factors affecting safety, problem areas encountered, and solution suggestions for ensuring safety. Medical errors are serious risks that threaten patient safety and directly affect the quality of healthcare services. The intensity and diversity of nurses' professional duties increase the likelihood of errors, thereby necessitating systematic evaluation. The study was conducted on 254 nurses working at the Uludağ University Health Application and Research Center. A correlational survey model was adopted in the study, and the Nursing Medical Error Propensity Scale developed by Özata and Altunkan (2010) was used as the data collection tool. The scale consists of a total of 49 items in five sub-dimensions and is structured using a five-point Likert scale. The results of the study show that nurses generally have a low propensity for medical errors. However, factors such as age, years of experience, presence of health issues, shift work, job satisfaction, satisfaction with team communication, and department changes were found to significantly influence error tendencies. In particular, nurses with health issues, those working shifts, and those dissatisfied with team communication had higher medical error tendency scores. These findings indicate the need to restructure nurses' working conditions, improve sleep and rest periods, manage stress and workload, enhance team communication, and increase opportunities for continuous education. Such measures will reduce nurses' risk of error, thereby improving patient safety and service quality.
2025-05-30T00:00:00+03:00Copyright (c) 2025 SOSYAL GELİŞİM DERGİSİhttps://sosyalgelisimdergisi.com/index.php/pub/article/view/56Evaluating Surgical Nurses’ Disaster Readiness and Knowledge Levels in Anticipation of a Potential Earthquake in Istanbul2025-06-11T03:33:58+03:00Gülce KARAKUŞgulceekarakus@gmail.comGülbahar KESKİNgulbaharkeskin@halic.edu.tr
This study was conducted to examine the knowledge levels and preparedness of nurses. Earthquakes are among the most significant natural disasters in our country. Nurses make up the majority of the healthcare team, and therefore, they have important duties and responsibilities during earthquakes. This research was conducted with 201 nurses working in the surgical wards and operating rooms of a training and research hospital in Istanbul. It is a descriptive and complementary study. The data collection tools used were the Employee Information Form and the Nurses' Perception of Disaster Preparedness Scale. According to the results of the study, 58.2% of the participating nurses had previous earthquake experience, and 53.7% stated that they felt partially prepared for an earthquake, while 80.1% believed that the city of Istanbul is not prepared at all for a potential earthquake. A significant difference was found between the nurses’ perception of Istanbul’s preparedness for an earthquake and the “Pre-Disaster Preparedness Phase.” However, no significant difference was found between the overall scale scores and its sub-dimensions regarding the “Response Phase” and “Post-Disaster Phase.” These findings indicate that Istanbul is not adequately prepared for an earthquake. In this regard, implementing regular disaster training programs and encouraging nurses’ participation will increase awareness and preparedness in advance of a possible Istanbul earthquake.
2025-05-30T00:00:00+03:00Copyright (c) 2025 SOSYAL GELİŞİM DERGİSİhttps://sosyalgelisimdergisi.com/index.php/pub/article/view/57The Relationship Between Digital Game Addiction and Communication Skills with School Engagement in Adolescents2025-07-10T19:16:20+03:00Duygu YIKILMAZduyguoguz20@gmail.com
This study aims to examine the relationships between digital game addiction, communication skills, and school engagement in adolescents. Adolescence is a critical developmental period during which excessive engagement with digital games can lead to various social, emotional, and academic problems. In this context, the study investigates the direction and strength of the associations between digital game addiction, communication competence, and students’ level of attachment to school. The research was designed using the relational survey model, a quantitative research method. The study group consisted of 384 students enrolled in public middle and high schools in a metropolitan city in western Turkey during the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Digital Game Addiction Scale, the Communication Skills Assessment Scale, and the School Engagement Scale. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 software, employing descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that as the level of digital game addiction increased, both communication skills and school engagement significantly decreased. Moreover, a positive and significant correlation was found between communication skills and school engagement. These results suggest that digital game addiction is not only an individual concern but also a significant social and educational risk factor. Accordingly, it is recommended that schools implement comprehensive communication-based social skills training programs and promote digital literacy awareness in order to mitigate the potential negative effects of digital gaming habits on adolescents’ development and academic integration.
2024-05-26T00:00:00+03:00Copyright (c) 2025 SOSYAL GELİŞİM DERGİSİ
